Quieting the Noise Together

Hi Reader,

Overstimulation is real on so many levels.

Lately, our text messages and emails have been filled with so much noise that many of us are probably feeling overwhelmed or like we suddenly “need” all the things.

Let’s pause together and quiet the noise. No more shiny objects. Let’s get honest about whether something is a need or a want. Lately, I’ve been seeing so many posts, emails, and videos about three things: capacity, decluttering, and focus.

Capacity – What season are you in?
So many of us need to stop and evaluate the season of life we’re in. My season has been really heavy with the holidays, events, grief, and big changes at work. I’m learning to give myself more grace and to understand what rest really looks like (not doing good at this).

Declutter – What do you need to let go of?
This is something I really struggle with, especially when I look around my house. Paper clutter here, paper clutter there… join this program, try that thing… and then I’m right back to reminding myself to give myself grace. When was the last time you did a brain dump of all the mental clutter? It’s been a minute for me. I’m hoping to get to it soon, but for now I’ve been unsubscribing from a lot of emails and saying no more.

Focus – What should you focus on right now?
We have so many ideas, and we want to do all of them at once or back to back with no break in between. God gives us ideas, but what is the one thing He’s asking us to do right now? Often we say yes to everything, get distracted, and lose focus. I’m learning to use more of what I already have. I do not need every shiny object that sounds perfect. I just need to do what God told me to do whether it’s perfect or not. I’ve been sitting on so many things, and now I’m choosing to step out and trust God with the one thing.

Right now, my main focus is building the communities that have been on my heart for a while:

In recent emails, we have been discussing grief, survival mode, and walking in your calling. Here is the thing: I love to encourage and inspire, but I tend to overthink my delivery, especially in written form. Can anyone else relate? I had many ideas on how I wanted to send this email, but life happened. I wanted to send a video a day with an explanation about the theme of the video, but here I am presenting everything in the way that feels easiest and simplest. I am working on giving myself...

Are you living or just existing? I’ve had to ask myself that question a lot lately. When someone asked how I was doing mentally, I told them, “I’m existing, not living.” That was hard to admit, but it was true. I was showing up for everyone else, keeping busy, and doing what needed to be done. But deep down, I wasn’t really living. Grief can do that. It can leave you feeling like you’re stuck in a fog that never fully lifts. It can keep you from pursuing your dreams and achieving your goals....

A while ago, someone asked me, “How are you, really?” And without even thinking, I said, “Honestly, I’m in survival mode.” Survival mode can feel like moving through life on autopilot. You wake up, take care of everyone else, check the boxes, and call it a day. You’re functioning, but not truly living. As the holiday season approaches, I’ve been asking God to show me how to come out of survival mode because this time of year is complicated. It holds both joy and grief, laughter and tears. For...
